Connected a scan tool and found code U0100 – Lost Communication With ECM/PCM "A". Performed a visual inspection of the battery and found no obvious faults. Used a multi-meter to measure the voltage across the battery terminals and found the measured voltage was within the specified range. Attempted to communicate with the powertrain control module using the scan tool and found communication was not possible. Performed a visual inspection of the powertrain control module wiring harness and found no obvious faults. Used the multi-meter to check for the presence of a short or open in the powertrain control module communication circuits and found there were no shorts or opens present. Used the multi-meter to check for the presence of voltage and ground at the powertrain control module and found both were present. These test results verified the powertrain control module was faulty.
